At the second annual Health and Wellness Fair that will be held at the Shoppes at Osprey, located on FishHawk Blvd. next to CenterState Bank on Saturday, February 23 from 1-4 p.m., you will be able meet with local businesses participating in the Fair to learn about their services that can help you meet your fitness and nutrition goals.
It is important to take a pro-active approach to health and wellness. A lot of illness and the pain caused by illness and other medical issues can be traced back to very basic root causes.
The symptoms that manifest are the body?s final attempt to get a message to the brain that the body and the mind?s needs aren?t being met. Many people think that nutrition is limited to the food we eat, but there are many non-food components that nourish us as well.
Tara Gravino, Owner of TNT Smoothies & Supplements said, ?Taking responsibility for your health begins with small pro-active decisions that contribute to a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis, as opposed to reactive steps only after we feel sick.?
TNT offers everything from daily multi-vitamins and supplements to entire programs for serious fitness and weight loss goals. ?Sharing information about health is something they have found to help people live more abundant, well-rounded and fulfilling lives,? said Gravino.? They are a main sponsor of the Health & Wellness Fair.
The Fair is intended to be educational, interactive and fun for all ages, and the goal is to highlight the healthy, natural options each participating business brings to the community.
There will be demonstrations and samples from TNT vitamin and supplement representatives, their resident therapeutic grade essential oil consultant from Now Age Wellness and their wheat grass supplier from Universal Living Sprouts.
Snap Fitness trainers will be present to answer questions about healthy lifestyle changes, weight loss, and the different fitness packages available at Snap. There will be Interactive group fitness demos and Snap Fitness will also provide body fat testing and measurements.
Other participating businesses will include Strong Life Chiropractic, FishHawk Martial Arts Academy, Keller Williams Realty, FishHawk Animal Clinic, The Coffee House and FishHawk Pizza.
They will also have volunteers from the local Relay for Life (RFL) of FishHawk to provide information regarding the services the American Cancer Society is able to offer through funds raised through Relay. They plan on donating a portion of the proceeds from TNT?s smoothie sales to The Ibis Park Partners, LLC RFL Team.

Nikon introduced a pair of step-up superzoom cameras here at CP+, with the P520 designed to meet the needs of advanced amateur shooters and the L820 best suited for casual photographers looking to get a bit closer to the action. Both models include BSI CMOS sensors, with the $450 P520 snapping 18.1-megapixel stills and the $280 L820 capturing 16 megapixels. That first model includes a 42x (24-1,000mm) optical zoom lens while the latter sports a 30x (22.5-675mm) optic -- both offer lens-based image stabilization. Both options feature lens-mounted zoom toggles, pop-up flashes and dedicated video capture buttons, but only the P520 offers a dedicated mode dial, and if you're planning to make changes on the fly, that's really a necessity.
We caught up with the duo at Nikon's CP+ booth this week -- we were expecting some inconsistency between the two based on price and specs alone, but after trying out both models, the Coolpix P520 is far and above the better option. The VGA-resolution 3.2-inch display was incredibly sharp and bright, and the vari-angle functionality lets you snap overhead and below-eye-level shots with ease. The camera was very responsive and the housing felt quite durable -- you definitely get quite a bit for your 450 bucks. The L820, on the other hand, felt very much like a low-end alternative, so unless you're on a strict budget or in the market for a sub-$300 model, you'll want to spend for the P520. You should be able to check out both cameras in retail stores beginning later this month, or you can take a look today in our hands-on after the break.

A survivalist and his 5-year-old captive remained in a bunker in southern Alabama on Saturday as top hostage negotiators continued to communicate with the man. NBC's Gabe Gutierrez reports.
By Matthew DeLuca, Staff Writer, NBC News
A young Alabama boy entered his fifth day Saturday in a bunker with the man accused of snatching him off a school bus.
Police said Saturday that the boy, aged 5, has toys, coloring books, and medication in the underground bunker where he is being held by Jimmy Lee Dykes, the Associated Press reported.
The boy has Asperger?s syndrome and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, a state representative said earlier this week.
Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson said that Dykes, 65, told police he has an electric heater and blankets in the underground bunker on his property in Midland City, Ala. Olson would not say whether Dykes has made any demands, according to the AP.
?I want to thank him for taking care of our boy,? Olson said. ?That?s very important.?
While little has changed in the standoff since Tuesday afternoon and authorities are keeping tight-lipped, former FBI hostage negotiator Clint Van Zandt said on the TODAY show that patience may pay off.
First picture emerges of man believed to have taken 5-year-old hostage in Alabama
?85 percent or more of standoff situations like this end nonviolently,? Van Zandt said on Saturday. Police have said that they are communicating with Dykes in the bunker through a PVC ventilation pipe.
?The reality is he hasn?t been hurt,? Van Zandt said of the young hostage. ?Law enforcement doesn?t want to do anything precipitously that could cause anybody to be hurt at this time when the talking cure will likely work in this situation.?
A police source confirms to NBC News that this is the suspect, Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65.
Dykes? neighbor Michael Creel told the AP that the man, who has been described as a paranoid Navy veteran, showed off the ventilation pipe after installing it about a year ago.
?He was bragging about it,? Creel told the AP. ?He said, ?Come check it out.??
The first picture of Dykes emerged Friday. The man served just over four years in the Navy, a U.S. military official confirmed on Friday, and received several awards including a good conduct medal.
Meanwhile, the Dale County community mourned school bus driver Charles Albert Poland, Jr., 66, this weekend. Police say Poland was shot and killed while trying to stop the child from being taken off his bus on Tuesday.
Son says bus driver in Alabama hostage crisis gave life for ?his children?
Aaron Poland, the son of the slain bus driver, told TODAY that his dad died a hero.
?Every time a child got on my dad?s bus, they were no longer their parents?, they were his. He considered them his children,? Poland said, his voice quavering with emotion. ?I know that?s the reason why my dad took those shots, for his children, just like he would do for me and my sister.?
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The Detroit Free Press:
Mayor Dave Bing is expected to announce on Friday a number of cuts to the city's parks and recreation budget -- including the closure of city parks -- in the aftermath of the City Council's decision this week not to approve a deal for Michigan to lease Belle Isle and run it as a state park.
That decision -- the council couldn't muster enough support to take a full up-or-down vote on the proposed lease -- prompted Gov. Rick Snyder to remove the deal from the table. Snyder took with him an offer to wipe $6 million in annual maintenance and operations costs for Belle Isle off the city's books -- money the Bing administration said would have helped Detroit pay for other crucial city services and other city parks.

SANTIAGO, Chile - A magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook offices, toppled supermarket shelves and broke windows Wednesday in north-central Chile, where people fled some buildings in panic.
A 50-year-old woman in the city of Copiapo died of a heart attack, said Atacama Regional Gov. Rafael Prohens, who attributed her death to fear during the quake. Authorities said that damage was limited and discounted the possibility of a tsunami.
The U.S. Geological Survey originally reported the quake at 6.7, but later revised it upward. It struck at 4:15 p.m. and was centred 44 kilometres north of Vallenar, Chile.
The quake shook the capital of Santiago, causing office buildings to sway, but was felt most powerfully in the north where state television showed images of scattered groceries at supermarket floors and broken windows at several homes in Vallenar, Copiapo and other nearby cities.
Witnesses described people running from buildings into the streets in panic.
Vallenar Mayor Cristian Tapia said telephone lines were jammed and some electricity lines were temporarily down but services were slowly returning.
"The first half hour was really tough. We're still having problems with telecommunications," Tapia told state television. "Two walls collapsed. We're evaluating ruptures at homes to find out if they're still safe to live in."
But Chile's Emergency Office, ONEMI, said no injuries were immediately reported and damage to infrastructure appears minimal. The oceanographic service discounted the possibility of a tsunami.
"There's no doubt the population in some places fled, following a culture of evacuation," Miguel Ortiz, national chief of the early alert centre at ONEMI. Two lower intensity aftershocks were also reported.
A devastating 8.8-magnitude quake and the tsunami it unleashed in 2010, killed 551 people, destroyed 220,000 homes and washed away docks, riverfronts and seaside resorts. The disaster cost Chile $30 billion, or 18 per cent of its annual gross domestic product.
Chile is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.
Just off Chile's long coast, the Nazca tectonic plate plunges beneath the continent, pushing the Andes to ever-higher altitudes. The 2010 quake was so strong it changed time, shortening the Earth's day slightly by changing the planet's rotation.
The strongest earthquake ever recorded also happened in Chile, a magnitude-9.5 in 1960 that killed more than 5,000 people.
