How do I get an exotic pet license? | Pet oNo

ok I?m 14 years old and I was wondering what it takes to get an Exotic Pet license in Minnesota. I want to get a pet raccoon.

A 14 year old is not able to get a license for that, only your parents would. Usually to obtain this kind of license, you need a legit reason, you cannot just get one because you want one, which basically means you cannot have one as a regular pet, you can just get them for rehabilitating or like zoos can have these animals for educations purposes ect.

And according to this pet raccoon website it is illegal to keep them as pets in your state, a license is irrelevant:

http://mypetraccoons.com/raccoon_006.html

Even if it was legal, you are not old enough or mature enough to care for and handle this kind of pet. They are wild animals, not domesticated like most common pets, so it takes experience to own and handle them. Young kids should not have these kinds of pets. They can be destructive without the right care and proper knowledge. They can chew things, they can bite, they cannot be kept in a cage, they need special vets (regular vets usually won?t see wild animals because of health risks) so you would probably need to drive hours and pay quite a fee to get it taken care of, they have special dietary requirements, and they live longer than you can commit to at this age.

Maybe in 15 years if you?re still interested and you live in a different state where pet raccoons are legal, and you do a lot of research and find someone who breeds them, then you can start to consider it. But all in all I would not suggest getting a pet raccoon. You may think they?re cute, but that doesn?t mean you should own one.

Raccoons aren?t even rodents, if you don?t know that, you shouldn?t be owning one regardless. It takes tons of knowledge, money, and responsibility to own wild animals.

You may have heard of Belgium cut and Israel cut, which means the technique of cutting the diamond. Currently, there are five famous diamond-cutting centers in the world. They are Russia, New York of US, Antwerp of Belgium, Tel Aviv of Israel and Bombay of India.

The Latest Gadget Compared to Fine Jewelry

By Anonymous on May 08, 2012 01:18 pm

It always seems that the latest big marketing push for the newest tech-gadget is what we feel we must purchase for big occasion gifts. There was the VHS player, then the DVD player, then the Blue-Ray player. Now we simply stream from Neflix and Hulu TV. Every year for the past 10 years it seems we needed to purchase a larger TV just before football season. These types of latest-and-greatest gifts never hold their value and are mostly irrelevant after a few years. Luckily, there are more traditional gifts which will stand the test of time. Traditional gifts like fine jewelry will increase in value and can be handed down through the generations as a treasured gift.

LRAD to be security device during London Olympics - Business Insider

The manufacturer of the LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device) has previously gone to great lengths explaining how?the device is not a weapon???in the lethal sense anyway.

As a non-lethal device, the LRAD uses some unconventional means of sending intruders reeling or keeping crowds under control, as used by the U.S. Army in Iraq.

Gavin Thomas at BBC News reports:

The American-made Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) can be used to send verbal warnings over a long distance or emit a beam of pain-inducing tones...The piercing beam of sound emitted by the device is highly directional. Some versions of the LRAD are capable of producing deafening sound levels of 150 decibels at one metre.

The UK's Ministry Of Defense has confirmed the LRAD 1000Xi model?will be deployed during the upcoming Summer Olympics in London. The BBC reports it was just tested during Exercise Olympic Guardian and will be "primarily used in the loud hailer mode" from the Thames River.

A representative of LRAD Corp told United Press International that the device can cover "distances up to 3,000 metres (1.8 miles) to peacefully resolve uncertain situations."

Olympic security has been in the news lately, with recent confirmation that British troops are looking into installing surface-to-air missiles on an apartment building in East London. A "multilayered air security plan" is just one part of the U.K.'s efforts to defend the summer games.

Breast Cancer Awareness with Beauty Salons | Career Development

Posted: Tuesday, May 15th, 2012
Category: Cosmetology

This Mother?s Day, beauty salons in some parts of the U.S. are joining the fight to stamp out breast cancer.

The campaign, close on the heels of news of carcinogenic substances in beauty products, enjoins professional cosmetologists?such as those who have a Kentucky Cosmetology CE or a CosmetologyCampus WI Cosmetology CE, for instance?to participate in spreading breast-cancer awareness.

In the Chicago area, for instance, a ?Mammograms for Mother?s Day? initiative will have nurses from Loyola University Medical Center and Loretto Hospital joining Sen. Kimberly A. Lightford and the senator?s 4th District Gentlemen?s Committee visit 16 beauty salons. Two teams will drop by beauty salons in Austin, Bellwood, Berwyn, Broadview, Forest Park, Oak Park, Westchester and other communities in Lightford?s 4th District.

Nurse educators and some members of the 4th District Gentlemen?s Committee will talk on the importance of regular breast exams and mammograms to cancer detection and prevention and will distribute educational materials to promote breast-cancer awareness among salon workers in hopes that they will help spread the word to their clients.

A study appearing in the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved reported that hair salons ?are a potentially important venue for promotion of health behaviors related to breast cancer detection.?

?Beauty salons are great places to get the word out about breast-cancer prevention and the critical need for early detection,? stressed Sen. Lightford, adding that in helping propagate messages that can save lives, men (referring to 4th District Gentlemen?s Committee) are ?showing their love and concern for the women of our community.?

In return, according to Sen. Lightford?s office, on the day before Father?s Day, women from the 4th District will visit barbershops to talk on and promote prostate-cancer screenings and early detection. Loretto and Loyola nurses will likewise accompany the visiting team.

Chandler holding out?for Germany?

Jurgen Klinsmann had a few things to say on U.S. Soccer this morning. Some of it good ? and some of it quite concerning.

The good is on Clint Dempsey?s groin injury.

?Clint has a minor groin injury which should be fine within the next couple of days. We?re going to take it a bit easy in the beginning, and from there we don?t expect any problems,? Klinsmann said.

The not so good is about promising defender Timmy Chandler, who isn?t coming into camp.

I think it?s time for all U.S. Socccer fans to say this about the promising outside back. And say it out loud so it sinks in. ?He?s just not that into us.?

I have had long conversations with Timmy about where he is in his professional career and his commitment to playing international football. He has expressed his appreciation for all the opportunities we have given him, but he also feels at this point he needs to take a break. It?s disappointing not having him as a part of the team at this important juncture of building our team, but ultimately a player must decide what is best for him. The door is certainly not closed on Timmy, but in the moment we move on without him.?

I spoke to U.S. Soccer spokesman Michael Kammarman, who referred all questions to Klinsmann.

In the past, Chandler?s words and actions have always indicated he was ?all in? for the U.S. cause, never mind the dual citizenship and the fact that he grew up in Germany.

But recall that last summer he kept his distance from the U.S. camp. And more importantly, recall that he has yet to play in an official FIFA tournament. That means he?s still eligible to appear for Germany. And at 22 years old, it?s quite likely that he?s still holding out hope of appearing for his native country.

If he comes to this camp and appears in one of the upcoming qualifiers, he?s tied to the United States.

U.S. Soccer may or may not continue to believe that Chandler is in the personnel mix. But if I?m wagering, I?m saying his future in the U.S. shirt stands highly in doubt.

It?s hard to see this odd situation any other way (a player who prefers not to play internationally); it looks for all the world like he?s holding out for Germany.

Healthy weight loss is a patriotic duty | Loggerhead Fitness

?Today, the state with the lowest obesity rate would have had the highest rate in 1995.? ? Jeff Levi, Ph.D., executive director of Trust for America?s Health, in 7 July 2011?press release.

Yes, America, you are getting fatter, and sicker, too. ?So says?F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America?s Future 2011,?the latest in a series of annual reports on American weight-gain and fitness by the Trust for America?s Health?(TFAH). ?In the past year, obesity rates increased in 16 states and didn?t decline in any state.

The ten states with the highest obesity rates are

1. Mississippi (34.4% now/ 19.4% in 1995)

2. Alabama (32.3%/ 15.7%)

3. West Virginia (32.2%/ 17.7% )

4. Tennessee (31.9%/ 16.4%)

5. Louisiana (31.6%/ 17%)

6. Kentucky (31.5%/ 16.6%)

7. Oklahoma (31.4%/ 12.9%)

8. South Carolina (30.9%/ 16.6%)

9. Arkansas (30.6%/ 17%)

10. Michigan (30.5%/ 17.2%)

Colorado has the lowest current obesity rate, 19.8% ? up from 10.7% in 1995.

The health consequences of the climbing obesity rates are severe, the TFAH notes. Forty-three states now have diabetes rates over 7 percent, and 32 have rates above 8 percent. Every state has?hypertension rates over 20 percent, with nine over 30 percent.

As the report?s title indicates, such massive health consequences put the nation itself at risk, threatening to leave Americans ill, unfit and broke. ?The trillion dollar question is, what do we do about the obesity epidemic?

The TFAH does a great job of establishing the problem, but its solutions seem less convincing to me. ?Three of its four main recommendations involve increasing or preserving federal funding for public health and prevention, school meal regulation enforcement, and child nutrition. ?If the Feds provide the money, they will call the shots, and we know what kind of dietary advice will underlie all their efforts: poor, counter-productive advice. ?More of the low-fat, high-carb insanity. ? The results will be more obesity, more diabetes, more hypertension.

The TFAH also recommends implementing something called the ?National Physical Activity Plan.? ?In other words, an exercise program. ?That won?t work, either. ?Imagine that a young man weighing 200 pounds stops for lunch at Burger King, and has it his way: Double Whopper (900 calories, 51g carbs); Medium Fries (440 calories, 56g carbs); and a Medium Frozen Coke (140 calories, 40g carbs). ?He has just consumed 1,480 calories and 147 grams of carbohydrates in a single meal.

Many restaurants could provide a similar high-cal, high-carb feast. ?So could many convenience stores.

To work off the calories in that lunch, our young man would need to engage in heavy aerobics for two hours and 20 minutes, or swim laps for the same length of time, or walk at a 3.5 mph clip for four hours and 15 minutes (Exercise for weight loss | Mayo Clinic).

Is he likely to do that, and then another hour or two of exercise to start burning off body fat? ?No. ?But look on the bright side ? maybe he?s a lumberjack. ?Still, it?s impossible to burn off body fat when his blood-stream is full of the insulin needed to handle carbohydrates. ? And active life-style or not, too many high-carb meals will wear out his pancreas.

The bottom-line is, avoiding the high-calorie, high-carb meal is the only practical way to lose weight and preserve your health. ?Does that mean no trips to Burger King? ?No, not at all ? as long as having it your way means tossing the bun, the fries and the Coke. ?(But go ahead and have bacon with those burger patties.)

To be fair to the TFAH, it does add one more recommendation to its main four: that?the food and beverage industry voluntarily ?adopt strong, consistent standards for food marketing similar to those proposed in April 2011 by the Interagency Working Group, composed of representatives from four federal agencies ? the Federal Trade Commission, CDC, Food and Drug Administration and the USDA.? ?That is, Big Food, Inc., should scale back its advertising, especially ads and promotions aimed at children.

More likely, we?ll get a lecture from Big Food on personal and parental responsibility. ??It?s not our fault your kid is fat. ?Why did you let her eat so much??

We wouldn?t accept the same logic from a drug pusher. ?It?s not our fault your teenager over-dosed. ?Why did you let her have heroin?? ?No, we?d throw the creep in jail. ?But we?ll probably let Big Food go on pushing empty calories at us and our kids, using every tool of modern media. ? And when we over-dose on carbs and calories, damaging our pancreas and developing hypertension, Big Pharma will be there to sell us the medicine required to keep us alive and eating junk-food.

Well, folks, ultimately it is a matter of personal responsibility. ?You need to educate yourself, and then you need to tell Big Food where to shove its chips, fries and snack cakes. ?Then tell Big Pharma where to shove its miracle cures for type-2 diabetes because you won?t need them.

Do it for yourself ? and do it for your country.

Tyson Beckford Sex Tape: Real and Unimpressive, Model Admits

That alleged Tyson Beckford sex tape is apparently real.

And nothing that great, according to the "star" himself.

The previously unreleased (and now leaked) Tyson Beckford sex tape featuring himself (with himself) is definitely not a masterpiece, he says.

Tyson Beckford Pic

Someone is shopping footage of the 41-year-old face of Polo Ralph Lauren pleasuring himself during n Internet video chat with a female model.

Tyson went on Twitter yesterday to address the issue with fans, and he basically came clean about it ... saying he's "sad but life goes on."

"Don't even faze me," he said, unapologetically. "We all do it, just mine got caught on film." He also admitted, "Not much of a sex tape lol."

Beckford also got love from Tyrese Gibson, which is funny because on the sex chat, Tyson says his pet peeve is being mistaken for him.

"What folks don't know is Tyson opened the door for me to model," Tyrese Tweeted. Let's hope he didn't also open a door to amateur sex tapes.

The Engadget interview: OnStar's Nick Pudar talks smart grids at CTIA 2012 (video)

While visiting the Innovation Showcase at CTIA 2012, we ran into Nick Pudar -- OnStar's VP of Business Development -- who was kind enough to give us a few minutes of his time. We sat in the LTE Skype-enabled Chevy Volt on display and discussed such topics as OnStar FMV, RelayRides and smart grids -- wherein power utilities can (with the customer's consent) send a signal to a vehicle to control when it charges. The idea is to allows utilities to maximize grid efficiency and minimize power spikes while giving customers options for when to charge the vehicle -- like when the rates are the lowest or when the power generated is coming from renewable energy, for example. Pretty neat stuff, eh? Watch our video interview for all the (pardon the pun) juicy details.
