Eric is one greyhound who loves people and enjoys nothing more than being with you. He is a happy, active (for a greyhound), playful boy who would love to have a family of his own. Eric is an average size greyhound boy at 72 lbs. He is easy to handle and will stand quietly for a bath or to have his nails trimmed. He is so excited about being out of the kennel that everything to him is a new adventure. He seems so happy to just gallop around in the yard and search for squirrels or watch what is going on. He rides well in a car, van, or SUV and already is learning to walk fairly well on a leash. He does very well using a gentle leader or "halti", both of which are available at most pet stores. If a dog wants to pull a little on a leash, we always recommend a gentle leader or halti, as they are quite gentle for the dog. The other advantage is that with consistent use for a couple of weeks, the dog will train themselves to walk nicely by your side on a regular collar and leash. We do not recommend that you use chain collars on greyhounds. When we tested Eric with cats, he seemed a little too interested in chasing the cat, but may be able to live with a bossy, "Ninja" type cat. He does very well with other dogs, and of course, loves to be around people. In fact, it you stand near him for very long, Eric will lean against you. He will also try to climb into your lap if you let him as he has no concept of his size. If you would let him lie next to you on the sofa, he would be very happy. Eric is a son of the great Irish champion greyhound, Deerfield Site, which is where his racing name "Far Site Better" comes from. As a racer, Eric was truly exceptional. He competed in a total of 237 races, all at Derby Lane Greyhound Track in St. Petersburg. He raced from February 2009 until August of this year, winning 40 times and placing second another 30 times. Eric had very good care at his racing kennel, and after all of those races, hec came to us in excellent condition with no racing injuries. After such an exemplary career on the track, Eric deserves a wonderful retirement with a family of his own, a soft bed, an air conditioned house, and of course, plenty of treats. We have just picked up Eric, so he has been in foster care for a very short period of time. We will have more information in a few days on how Eric is adapting to life in a home, so please check back for updates.
